of not just the city tradition but the san francisco giants tradition. since we have been in the new ball park, it has been played a total of 573 times after giants wins, including playoff wins and including world series wins. [applause] importantly, you know, we almost lost the giants. in 1993, we made some desperate calls to tony when the team was saved, and we asked tony -- there is only one person that could kick off the new generation, the new era of giants baseball on opening day in 1993, and that was tony bennett. he sang "god bless america" and "i left my heart in san francisco" on that date. it was an unbelievable day. it brought down the house, as did your performance at the all- star game. as did your performance at the world series. you are a huge part of the san francisco giants. as we all know, you have not arrived until you have your own bobblehead. shoppers will notice it's a little different than the others. the so-called city target will open one hour earlier than other stores at 7:00 a.m. it features smaller than average shopping carts and a special eating area overlooking yerba buena gardens. another city target opens this week in los angeles. by the way, plans for a second target in san francisco, already in the works. >> of course target has a little of everything, including starbucks. speaking of starbucks, the company is letting san francisco become the official taste tester of a brand new food line. the coffee chain assessing out some new croissants, muffins, loafs and cakes with plans to eventually roll them out nationally. the new baked goods stem from starbucks $100 million purchase of a small san francisco bakery chain, and they do have some tasty treats. hopefully that good news from starbucks will soften the blow of this news. starbucks reporting a shortage of pumpkin spice for its popular autumn lattes. people devastated coast to coast. starbucks says some can't keep up with the demand due to the infrequent deliveries

is the bone-chilling temperatures. a cold snap is gripping roughly two-thirds of the country. dozens of cities saw record lows over the weekend. the midwest in an early deep freeze including in sioux city, iowa, where they're bottoming out at 15 degrees. alexandria steele is live in the extreme weather center. good morning. >> good morning to you, soledad. it certainly is cold around the country. all right, yesterday alone, 170 record low high temperatures, meaning the afternoons were well below average. st. louis only 51, should have been 68. places that should have been in the 60s were well below average. so freeze threat today. you can see kind of how widespread it is from the upper midwest to texas through the mid-atlantic. places like ohio, running about a week and a half ahead of schedule with their first freeze. it's well below average and certainly a little bit earlier than normal. coldest thus far of the season, we saw it begin last week in the northern plains and upper midwest. now migrating into the south and east. today really kind of the coldest of the low and then temperatures wi

at unemployment numbers. you can look at where gas prices are at. you can look at the history of the city-state's to give you a sense of where the have been in the past and where they might be headed. it gives you a good sense of which states are in playing. you can play around and make your own map and the electorial map and sketched out a different paths for each of the candidates. host: so far you have 251 votes for president obama and 181 for mitt romney. what do you base the data and making this analysis? guest: and decided which states are in play, we look at an average of the polls. we look at the polls that are out there. you can see when you look at the data that is available but the polling numbers show. we're constantly getting new poll information. we will see the numbers continue to shift and change as the of election comes closer. they could potentially go either way. host: states in play? guest: we still see florida and ohio among the most coveted states. the have a lot of electoral votes. they are still very close. florida at this point looks to be about tied. you can see

, always had trouble keeping in line, where the holy cities are. iran is strongly institutionalized. it is not a 1-man sophistic -- it has different centers of power against each other in a complex bureaucratic border. the gift of the iranian plateau and geographic legitimacy provides the government over millennia. i would say our grand strategy has to be that the u.s. has been estranged from iran for a third of the century, a decade longer than we were estranged with red china between 40, and 72. at some point and this is what the saudis really worry and think about, there has to be a -- with iran. we have to think in those terms. does going to war -- all of iran supports a nuclear program but it is unclear that iran supports nuclear weapons. there is a distinction. so the real critical factor is what do we need to do to normalize relations with iran. the answer to that may be a strong military reaction if they weapon is. the long range strategy, the road map to normalizing u.s. relations with iran. >> interesting and good answer. it may well be that confrontation is the normalizat

this sports disappeared on my radio show. i fight for it. cities such as boston, detroit, nashville, los angeles. they're passionate about their teams. i'm telling you they continue to push the fringe fan away. they don't have a great television deal. and basic sports fans who want to watch the sport. really like the fact that the l.a. kings were the 7th team in seven years to win the stanley cup. fan interest is back. but pushing those fans away again, i'm telling you eventually they're going to kill the golden goose. melissa: what is your prediction on outcome of this one? >> here is what i think. the average hockey play play ownly 3 1/2 years. if they miss this year, they will lose 0% of the their career earnings. time for the players to give in. and take it on the chin . a lot of great hockey players are playing in russia, in europe. they have opportunities to make money globally. what i think will happen once the players lose big paychecks next couple weeks. they will tell donald fehr who represents them. do whatever you can to get a deal done. melissa: interesting. >> one last poin
